Franklin High School’s robotics team is enthusiastically working toward victory in this year’s FIRST Robotics Competition – Rebound Rumble, a basketball-like game played by robots designed, manufactured, and operated by the students. The 45 member team was given this year’s game challenge in early January and has six weeks to complete a fully functional robot. They’ll be competing in Duluth the weekend of March 8 and at the US Cellular Arena in Milwaukee the weekend of March 22-24. Come visit and feel the energy and excitement of thousands of students enjoying friendly competition – the event is completely FREE.
FIRST (For Inspriation and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics encourages students to compete, cooperate, and develop social responsibility. During the year the team presents the robot at some of the elementary schools, mans the annual recycling drive at the high school (to be held May 5, 2012 – please save your scrap metal and appliances and drop them off that morning), and demonstrates their robot at sponsor events like picnics and “Take Your Child to Work Day.” The team is always interested in new ways to assist within the community, either with or without their robot.
